I am looking to be both a therapist and a coach. I really want to interact in people’s life’s. Do coaches go into homes and their communities with them? I am just beginning to ponder in all of this. I am very interested in behavioral therapy for coaching. I am interested in helping teens and young adults as well as adults. I have so many thoughts and ideas but have been met with some skepticism from others which has made me back off a bit. However, the pull to help others in a more interactive way is calling to me.

What about that one that wrote down the patients problems and does independent research off the clock to find out solutions that best suit their patients needs so the next time you talk you are able to give them both logical/emotion oriented solutions to their problems?

I'm amazed no one has posted any comments about David. I follow him and have purchased some of his products. I've had to work on my mindset extensively because of "Non-Profit PTSD" (working far too long for Non-Profit Agencies). He is a protege of Bob Proctor (He's mostly known as being in "The Secret") If you're struggling with making money as a therapist, start working with David's presentations. They have helped me immensely.

I am a therapist and I didn’t come from the “upper classes” to be able to afford my education. I worked my ass off and I have student loans which I pay on. Aren’t you delving into consumerism with the smartphone or tablet you used to write your comment? Yes as humans we all desire and deserve happiness and the world can be a very defeating place to live but self-care doesn’t have to cost a thing nor do people have to take a judgmental stance on other’s choices.

This is a good reminder of why most working class people don't like therapy outside of social stigma. Therapists tend to be of the upper classes in order to pay for their education, and they tend to get paid quite well. This association of self care and ultimately happiness with consumerism is not only disliked but unrealistic for the majority of people, when we spend all of our money on basic necessities and are unable to fufill our wants and many times our needs. People want to love themselves and be content with who they are and the world around them, and spending money and indulging in consumerism rarely are ever genuine solutions to these problems.

I would not treat a high risk client across state lines. 911 and non-emergency calls for welfare checks becomes complex across state lines.

I joined a small, well-established practice 5 months ago and my experience is nothing like yours. I am definitely not busy (12 clients) and I want to get to 25-30 clients - referrals come slowly. I am currently owed over $2000.00 in unpaid claims (mostly BCBS) from sessions facilitated during the March through May period this year - we're currently in July). The issue with BCBS has now been resolved, however I do not know when I'll receive payment.

This is sooo helpful. I don't have a waiting room and this video made me feel normal because I'm starting out and I don't take back to back clients so I can have no waiting room but someone in the field made me feel bad for not having a waiting room, like it was unheard of even though I know some Psychologists don't have it. I've seen one who didn't have one.
